The Many Uses Of Clamp On Lamps
Clamp on lamps have really gained
in popularity during the last couple of years since people started to learn about their benefits in using
them, not only for reading but for many other activities.
Also called clip on lamps, these lamps are most of all used for
reading. While many people use them by clipping them on the bed side of even on the book itself, they are
quite portable so can be taken along anywhere with a plug nearby. So if you are on your couch, or even on the
veranda during the evening, or in your kitchen, you can take this lamp along with you. However besides
reading, how else can one make use of clamp on lamps?
My grandmother is thrilled since I bought her this clamp on lamp from
Amazon as she can now easily do her needlepoint work. She is quite old and her eyes are no longer what they
used to be.
The particular lamp I bought for her (see image) is also a
magnifier which suits her weak eyes perfectly. Now she can see every single detail of what she is doing and
her needlepoint work is just perfect, without any mistakes.
Another interesting type of clamp on lamps that some people are using successfully are those
that are actually clamped on their glasses directly or they are worn around the neck with an ajustable strap
which leave the hands 'hands-free' for work . So instead of being clamped on the side of a table or
desk, they give you extremely focused illumination. This also has many applications, from reading, to doing
task work, or homework, anything that needs precise and focused lighting on a particular spot. These lamps
have usually 4 small batteries and they also function as a magnifier.
My dad has a shed in the backyard, we call it his 'workshop'. He
likes tinkering with his old car and he also likes fixing cars of his friends. He is already retired, however
all his life he was an auto mechanic, which means he know exactly how to repair cars. Last year we got him a
clamp on lamp for his workshop that enabled him to do precision fitting and shaping of the various parts.
Also he loves cleaning the interior of the car so using a clip on lamp by positioning it on the car hood he
can now easily see what he's doing even if it's late at night. The illumination in the shed is not the best
with the muted light coming from the ceiling, so having a task light that can be clipped on any surface on
the go is a major plus in my dad's book.
This lamp type is also perfect when you're doing remodeling or house renovation. There are some
lamps that are using batteries instead of being plugged to an electrical outlet. Sometimes the electrical
power in the entire home needs to be turned off and depending on the room you're in at the moment, you might
not have enough lighting to see what exactly you are doing. A task light that can be clipped on a nearby
surface is extremely handy in this these cases.
One of the small and focused lamp type that I've only get to know recently is the piano clip on
lamp. Musicians love it and with good reason, particularly if you like to play the piano. They effectively
direct the light on the piano keys and on the music tab. The piano player can place the lamp to be directly on
top of the sheet music or book so the musician can see at all times the notes very well. I've actually had the
luck of seeing one of these in a small piano concert hall the other day and I was impressed. It is amazing how
many things you notice when you are interested in a subject and then you start to see variations of it
everywhere you are going.
